ELLEN HONIG’S first professional acting job was at the age of nine years in “The King and I,” performed at The Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. She was a royal princess. She is a former student of The Professional Children’s School in New York City and graduated as a Theater and Speech major from Emerson College in 1968.
Ellen was enrolled in professional acting and dance classes from 1962 to1979. As a professional actress, she performed mostly in Summer Stock at Bellport LI, Millhall PA, and she acted in some children’s theater in New York City. She became Director of Development at Town School in 1979, where she also taught Creative Dramatics to the fourth through eighth grades.
Ellen began directing community theater in 1984. In 1993, she joined the Rhinebeck Theater Society (RTS) and became their president in 1994. She was president when The CENTER for Performing Arts put up the tent and RTS began performing there. She directed “Gypsy,” which was the first show in the new CENTER for Performing Arts building in 2000.
Ellen was a resident of Rhinebeck for 20 years and is currently living in Saugerties with her partner Ken. She raised two daughters in New York City and Chappaqua. Ellen has been a realtor for16 years and is affiliated with BHHS Hudson Valley, Rhinebeck, NY.
